CCSF Student Workers are coming together to win fair wages, job security, and a voice in the workplace.
Student work is real work.
At $19.18/hour with a 15 hour/week cap, our max monthly income is $1,151—while average SF rent is over $2,000. UC student workers organized and won $28-34/hour. We can too.
We're currently "at-will" employees who can be fired at any time without cause. We're automatically terminated every semester with no guarantee of rehire. We deserve just cause protection.
Right now there's no grievance procedure, no union representation, no recourse. With a union, we gain decision-making power over the policies that affect our work.
Limited to 15 hours/week and 4 semesters per department, we can't earn enough to cover basic expenses. A union contract can fight for expanded hours.
Currently, sick leave doesn't kick in until 90 days. We deserve sick leave and personal days from day one of employment.
Gavilan College student workers just made history. In March 2026 they won a formal union through voluntary recognition, becoming the first community college student workers union in California. Community college student workers are the last class of student workers at California public institutions of higher education without unions. It's our time.
Every voice matters in building a union. Here's how you can take action today.
The first step to building power is showing our numbers. Signing a union authorization card is a confidential way to show your support.
The best organizing happens through one-on-one conversations. Share your experiences and listen to your colleagues' concerns.
